Interpreters Unlimited to Provide ASL Services to California Department of Corrections

SAN DIEGO, CALIF., March 24, 2016—The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation awarded San Diego-based Interpreters Unlimited with a contract for sign language interpreting services at juvenile institutions, parole offices, sex offender treatment clinics, police departments, state prisons and psychiatric units, county jails, parole outpatient clinics and inpatient psychiatric clinics. The contract goes into effect April 1, 2016 and is to remain in effect through December 31, 2016. The terms of the contract are for interpreting services for spoken English to American Sign Language (ASL) and ASL to spoken English for the CDCR Division of Adult Parole Operations.

The provisions for the CDCR contract require the contractor (Interpreters Unlimited) to provide qualified ASL interpreters registered by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. “Inmates are entitled to the same services as everyone else,” says, Shamus Sayed, vice president of sales and marketing, Interpreters Unlimited. “We are passionate about bridging the communication gap no matter for whom it may be.”
