Deaf in Healthcare Summit logoSAN DIEGO, April 8, 2022 — Interpreters Unlimited is taking part in the 2nd ever Deaf in Healthcare Summit for Interpreters taking place April 8th through 10th, 2022. The event is virtual, and we are proud sponsors hosting one live Zoom networking and Q&A session per day.

Deaf in Healthcare is an event put on by 2axend, a Deaf-owned strategic consulting and training firm on a mission to propel user-centric experiences for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing individuals. They know as well as we do that communication is a right and a necessity for the healthcare experience for patients, so they created this event which helps strengthen, improve and promote Healthcare-American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter relations.

Time is often of the essence in medical settings, and ASL linguists are crucial to treatment in both emergency and non-emergency situations. Communication should never get in the way of health and safety. Having a language barrier in healthcare can have the most extreme consequences, so interpreters are a critical part of the process and can be a life saver.

At this event the sessions range from hands-on workshops to panel discussions focused on providing interpreters with insight, solutions, and best practices to position Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing clients for success in healthcare settings. In partnership with the Association of Medical Professionals with Hearing Losses the event provides interpreters with the skills, knowledge, and resources to support Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing medical professionals in clinical settings.

The official language of Deaf in Healthcare is American Sign Language, the entire summit is delivered in ASL with the exception of English-based typed chats and messaging, so it is a true ASL event.
