SAN DIEGO, October 4, 2021 — It’s National Hispanic Heritage Month, where we recognize the achievements and contributions of Hispanic American culture to the history, culture and achievements in the United States. The one month period running September 15th through October 15th has been dedicated to celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. The initial observation began with one week in 1968 and was expanded to an entire month in 1988.

Interpreters Unlimited (IU) is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month alongside the San Diego Business Journal as a sponsor of this week’s issue highlighting Hispanic owned restaurants and the honorees of the Latino Leaders Association awards. At IU we don’t just celebrate Hispanic Heritage this month but throughout the year. As a Language Service Provider we embrace culture and diversity, it’s what we do! We are proud to have a team comprised of many Hispanic Americans as well as the many Hispanic American interpreters and translators who we contract with to help break down the barriers of communication every day.

We thank the generations of Hispanic Americans who have greatly shaped and enhanced our country and civilization, and we are proud to support their community. The Hispanic American community is an important and positive part of our United Stated culture and society. We are so thankful to be a part of their lives and to have them in ours. We appreciate them every day.

You can learn more about Hispanic Heritage Month, the culture and contributions on this dedicated website highlighting Hispanic culture: https://www.hispanicheritagemonth.gov/. This site is a great resource and a collaborative project of the Library of Congress and the National Endowment for the Humanities, National Gallery of Art, National Park Service, Smithsonian Institution, United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and U.S. National Archives and Records Administration.
